Comments:
Mark
V. Stein used the following description when recently listing this radio
on Ebay.
"Offered here is a rare Detrola radio from 1936-37 nicknamed the
"Detrola Bluebird" for its similarity to
the Sparton Bluebird of the same vintage. The cabinet design and craftsmanship
are unique. This must have
been one of the most labor intensive cabinets to produce and was most
likely a very expensive radio in its day.
This may account for the fact that very few have survived. Less than half
a dozen are in the hands of collectors.
This example has been in my own collection for about fifteen years. The
cabinet has been professionally restored
to original using a hand-rubbed lacquer finish. There is no better example
to my knowledge."
